Where to Stay in Harbin
Central Street for the old town and Ice Festival, the river for the snow sculptures, and heated hotels are non-negotiable.
Central Street (Zhongyang Dajie)
The cobblestone old-town promenade — walk to Sophia Church, the river and the Ice Festival shuttle. Mid-range hotels, all heated. The best winter base.
Near the Songhua River
Closer to the Snow Sculpture Park and the river promenade. Quieter, still central.
Daoli district
The modern commercial core — malls, chains and high-rise hotels. Functional, less atmospheric.
Booking tips
Book via Trip.com; January is peak — book months ahead. Carry your passport; hotels require it. Confirm the heating works — it always does in proper hotels, but guesthouses can be patchy.

Locals' Tip
Stay on Central Street — you'll walk to the Ice Festival shuttle, Sophia Church and the river without exposing yourself to the cold twice.
