Shopping in Guangzhou
Beijing Road for the brands, Shamian for antiques, and the wholesale markets for everything China makes.
Beijing Road
The pedestrian shopping street — international brands, department stores and the usual mall chains. Fixed prices.
Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street
The old commercial street in Liwan — Cantonese snacks, silk and mid-range clothing. A local alternative to Beijing Road.
Wholesale markets
Guangzhou is China's wholesale capital — Baima (clothing), Baiyun (leather goods), and the electronics markets near the train station. Open to the public; bargain hard.
Shamian antiques
A few antique and curio shops on the island — jade, porcelain and old Cantonese crafts. Buy with a receipt.
Bargaining
Malls and chains have fixed prices; wholesale and street markets expect haggling.
Locals' Tip
Skip Beijing Road for Shangxiajiu — it's the local shopping street and half the price for the same Cantonese goods.
