Getting To & Around Guangzhou
The metro is the city's backbone, the APM loops the new CBD, and the Canton Fair has its own shuttle.
Arriving
Guangzhou Baiyun Airport (CAN) is 28 km north — Metro Line 3 reaches the center in 50 minutes; a DiDi is ¥120 and 40 minutes. High-speed rail links Guangzhou to Shenzhen (30 min), Hong Kong (1 hour) and Beijing (8 hours).
Getting around
The metro (14+ lines) covers everything — all signs and announcements are in English. The APM (automated people mover) loops the Zhujiang New Town CBD. Buses and DiDi fill the gaps.
Canton Fair
April and October — the city books out. The fair has free shuttles from major hotels; book transport and hotels months ahead.
Taxis & ride-hailing
DiDi works everywhere; taxis are metered. Few drivers speak English — the metro is the easier option.
Locals' Tip
Use the metro over DiDi in rush hour — Guangzhou traffic is among China's worst, and the metro is fast, clean and signed in English.
